The Republic of Ireland was part of the United Kingdom from 1 January 1801 until 6 December 1922. MICHAEL COLLINS was the charismatic leader of the violent campaign against the British, With the help of the IRA (Irish Republican Army), he fought for the Irish independence in the Anglo-Irish War from 1919 to 1921.
